I really don't like to post - okay take sides - on the whole who likes who in what fandom thing, but sometimes I come across some stuff that really irks me to no end.

In this case, it's Inuyasha and the whole Kikyo and Kagome deal. )

Let's see, in other stuff, I managed to complete a manga review for Inuyasha vol. 17 over the weekend. Viz has gone back to using the Japanese names for the attacks, all except for Miroku's. His "kazaana" is still "wind tunnel." But Inuyasha has his Sanko Tessou (or Tesso as it is in the volume) and Sango her Hirakotsu. Inuyasha doesn't use his Kaze no Kizu in the volume, so I'm not sure if that is retained or not.

Steve asked me to talk to a recruit from a Minnesota university who might be moving down here to Bristol. He said that since I recently made such a huge move that I would be good in letting him know about the area, etc. I'm looking forward to doing this. I still love the Bristol area, so I feel like I'd make a good ambassador for it.

I think Joe's coming in soon to film his TV spot. My next spot will be in two weeks. I do have a tape of my first three spots. Other than that, I have the normal layout and story filing to do today. I designed a rail announcing new DVD releases and Jan really liked it, so that will now be integrated into the elecTriCity section. Wai!

Revisiting that thread I linked to in the article, there's one other thing I neglected to point out.

The original poster, [livejournal.com profile] kikyounosorrow responded that I needed to grow up. "Dude, it's just a cartoon," she goes. That's the second time in that subthread I've been called a "dude." ::gazes at her chest::. Gee, I don't look much like a "dude."

I also find it hilarious that someone, who is three years younger than me, is telling me to grow up. If you want to criticize my post, that's fine. But, the last time I checked, I am an adult. I'm a college-educated young professional with a good career in journalism. I do know my own mind and I don't make posts like the one I did without thought or consideration. It's hilarious that the poster is taking the position that she does, based on other posts I've researched from her in the past.

[livejournal.com profile] cowgirled was really sweet and warned me not to post over there about it any longer. She said that [livejournal.com profile] wrongly_amused posted in her journal about it and that someone named [livejournal.com profile] ash_grey_sky is going to fandom_wank me if it gets any worse. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] miss_androny, let me know if you see me being wanked!

Personally, I don't care. It's sad that some folks have such a narrow-minded point of view that they're not willing to hear someone speak rationally about a subject. I've said my piece and I'm moving on. There's more important things in my life than to argue about stuff like that.

And if I'm "fandom wanked," it's no big deal. I remember the first piece of hate mail I got as a journalist. At first, I was crushed. Then my editor read it, gave me a huge grin and said, "Congratulations, you're a real journalist now!"

So what does that mean? It means that folks read my stuff and it touches off something that prompts them to respond - whether it be favorably or critically. If I don't know how to take criticism, then I'm not a very good journalist. This industry helped me to form a really thick skin, so stuff like that doesn't bother me. It doesn't make me any less of a writer or a person. In a positive sense, it gives me an additional point of view to consider later on.

Out of consideration for a good friend of mine, I'm locking the comments on the previous two posts. They were starting to devolve into folks randomly spamming the comments section and I've learned that the original post I made to the icons community is going to be used against that friend. While I did not know to begin with that the original poster had purposely targetted her, I refuse to let anyone use my thoughts to try to bring someone else down.

But, [livejournal.com profile] calger459, your comments were really interesting on the subject. It might be a future, general rant down the road or a column idea for work.

If anyone wants to contact me on the subject, they're free to IM me at MegsLeigh on AOL Instant Messenger.
