savvyliterate: (xenia - hmm...)
I got an e-mail from a reader who argued about me using the term, "hundreds of feet" to describe the subject of my story looking from the top of her second story building in downtown Bristol at the ground.

The scene I was describing doesn't have her looking straight at the ground. She's scanning the streeting, looking back toward the intersection with Volunteer Parkway/Commonwealth Avenue and then back down toward the Paramount Center for the Arts. Both which are hundreds of feet away from where she is standing. Mou...do I have to spell things out for people? (Apparently so.)

Big hugs to [livejournal.com profile] alf_b. I just realized that chapter 44 of "Shikon no Go" did hit close to home for you. I left the terms untranslated at first because I knew that Kagome would be explaining them later in the chapter. When I first began writing anime fanfic, I used Japanese terms through the fics all of the time. Now I keep it down to the suffixes, names of certain objects (like "Shikon no Tama"), weapons and attacks. There's also a few concepts that are hard to translate into English accurately as well.

So, this next question is mainly for [livejournal.com profile] elizasdream. Where's a good place to meet people in Bristol? After a long...okay, several long talk with my friend, S Man, this weekend, he's persuaded me that I need to take the bull by the horns and crawl out of my shell a little bit. I chafed at this because I do get out...in my own way. So I prefer Java J's to the State Line Bar and Grill. And I don't go to church. No. Absolutely not. I will not let anyone pressure me into attending something I am not comfortable with and I have yet to see church as a very shallow place full of very shallow people that do not make me feel comfortable at all.

So. No bars if at all possible and no church. Anyone else have any ideas?
