"Tomorrow is
kitesareevil's birthday"
Ooo....happy birthday, Stef! And with that, OSUWARI!
Thank you, everyone, for your well-wishes since I've gotten to Maine. I've already had a bit of a culture shock since I've gotten here and it's only been two days!
Tuesday morning, the temperature hovered at 18 degrees. It did not go much above this all day and it snowed well into the night. Because I had no food and I had to feed my father, I headed out to check out the little grocery store right around the corner.
Except, it's not so little.
It's fully stocked! I was amazed. It reminded me of the Washington Street Grocery in Selma, but nicer. There's no packaged meat here at all. You have to order it all from the meat counter. It'll be very nice, because I can have fresh meat for my cooking and not be stuck with a lot of extra meat I can't use. The same thing goes for cheese. The prices are a little high for some of the stuff, but it's to be expected for the convenience. I think I'll be doing a lot of my fresh food grocery shopping here and then get things like cat food and tolietries from Wal-Mart.
This morning, I wound up going back to it and picking up subs for me and my dad. Except here, they are called Italians and cost only 99 cents. That's something I can afford to live with! They also have a thing here called cranberry mustard which is very good. I got a jar for me and one for my stepmother. My dad's taking it back with him. We're leaving for the airport in two hours so he can fly back home to Alabama. Then, this apartment will feel like it's truly mine. He and Kathy plan to visit during the summer. So does my mom sometime. It's going to be weird. I must remember to keep this place clean. Granted, with not having much right now, that hasn't been a problem. I start work tomorrow, so I'll post more impressions then.
I am looking for people's Amazon wish lists. I'll be attempting to purchase Christmas presents when I can over the next few weeks. Please leave them in a comment! Thanks!
