Let's see, things that I believe are causing my blood sugar to crash:

- Soda
- Cookies
- Chips
- Hot dogs (well, the white bun is the chief culprit here I think)
- Pizza (geez, I only had two cinnamon sugar breadsticks!)

Things that do not cause my blood sugar to crash:

- Water
- Hummus
- Whole wheat pita
- This wheat Indian...stuff
- Some grilled pork
- Milk
- whole-wheat bagels with low-fat cream cheese.

Oh yeah, I forsee weight loss ahead, and that's only because I can't afford to fall asleep on the job.

A few weeks ago, I finally started keying into to the fact that something is wrong with me. I just didn't know what. I was tired all the time and tended to fall asleep very easily, but was getting plenty of sleep (for me at least) at night. I blamed it on a lot of things - stress, work, the fact I'm a nightowl, etc. But then after talking to my boss about my abilities to get easily distracted on the job, etc., I was worried I had serious problem.

I thought I was ADD, or something like that. But then I began noticing if I ate certain foods, I managed to retain my energy through the day - things like whole grains, etc. So I began wondering if I had diabetes and started looking up the facts on it. It made sense. Diabetes runs in the family. In the process of my research, I hit upon a definition for hypoglycemia and the symptoms listed for it. I also talked to my mother and she said that my cousin, Susan, also has hypoglycemia.

So we're banking that I either have that or the beginning stages of diabetes (swinging in the other direction.) In any case, I can't afford to start undergoing treatment for either then switch jobs (losing my insurance for three months in the process.) So, if I go to Maine, I will see a doctor there. Until then, I'm going to see what changing my diet will do. I'm experimenting around with what I can eat and what I can eliminate. Since I think soda gave me problems yesterday, I replaced it with water today. I already had the date to go eat pizza with my department, but even now, I'm feeling somewhat sluggish.

At least the positive side effect is that by being forced to change my diet for a legitimate reason, I'll have to lose weight - everything else makes me sleepy!
