Debate

I came into last night's debate leaning toward one side, but not fully convinced about it. Unless something major happens over the next two weeks, my vote is firmly in the Kerry/Edwards camp.

To be honest, neither of them blew me away. They said the same thing over and over again. What did impress me was how composed Kerry was and what a doofus Bush appeared to be. Bush acted like he was in a rudimentary public speaking class at the University of Alabama (no offense to my alma mater.) For example, at one point, he pulled a random widow and her child out of the air to talk about. It just seemed pretty contrived. Did Bush personally go visit the 1,052 families (as of last night), including several in my region, when their loved ones were killed in Iraq? Of course not.

Kerry also grandstanded a bit as well. His introduction left me rolling my eyes and nearly tossing something at the TV. But, I was impressed with how he spoke. Other than the DNC, this was my first exposure to him. I was quite impressed with what I saw.

John McCain argued that he felt that Bush adequately addressed that what he felt he did was the right thing to do. I disagree with this. Bush tossed the same rhetoric at us that he'd been doing since the beginning of the Iraq war.

I agree with Kerry in that we do need to talk to North Korea. We can't just shut them out and hammer at them like we did in Iraq. Unlike Saddam Hussein (who, I think at the point we arrested him was as harmless as Castro), North Korea has shown that they have nuclear weapons, and I don't want them to wind up using them on a target before someone takes notice. They're like a small child wanting to play with the bigger kids and trying to get ignored in the process. Eventually, that child will strike back.

I am interested to see what they will bring to the table regarding domestic issues, and how they conduct themselves during the town hall meeting.
