There's a mouse that's plagued our newsroom for the past couple months. Well, the metro desk and photographers decided to take matters into their own hands and went after the mouse. It was caught Friday night in the photo lab.

Later that night, Jeff and I walk into the newsroom to get a proof of my mookie page. The photographers had taken a life-sized image of the mouse caught in the trap and printed it out and taped it to the window outside of Steve's office. I walked over to look at it and was throughly grossed out. Mind you, I also proclaimed I was scared of said mouse.

"Oh look," I told Jeff. "They caught the mouse." I felt sorry for it. Poor thing. Its eyes were open and buldging and it look like it was struggling. "I wonder if it's okay?"

"Uh, Megan? It's dead."

"No it's not!" I pointed to the picture. "See? Its eyes are open!"

I had a feeling this amused Jeff. "No, Megan, its eyes are buldging." He proceeded to give me a graphic depiction of how the mouse probably died after the bar of the mouse trap crushed its little skull.

After talking to Steve and various other newsroom personnel this morning, I confirmed the mouse was dead and that Jeff's story was right.

"Hadn't you ever seen cowboy movies before?" Jan asked when I pointed out the open eyes.

"But, that's just the movies," I replied.

So that's the saga of the Bristol Herald Courier mouse. ::glances over her shoulder at Steve's office window:: Now, can they go ahead and take down the three-foot picture of the dead mouse caught in the trap???
