Hehehe, my icon was made for me by [livejournal.com profile] ely_chan

In the middle of the final rush of Progress, I hear my name being bantered about in the background. Then Jan comes up to me and asks if I would flesh out a freelancer's article about the opening of "The Passion of the Christ" today. Sure, I said, then finished my work.

At 3:30, I took a look at the story and nearly died. Poor guy. He really needs some journalism classes. I refused to add my byline to that story, grabbed my reporter's notebook and headed out the door. Considering it was pretty late in the day, I knew it would be hit-or-miss if I got anyone to talk to me.

I was in luck though. A very nice rector of an Episcopal church made himself late for a meeting to talk to me. I went back, combined that interview with the freelancer's material and an Associated Press writeup. This article was the result.

As I'm trying to listen to my tape recording, make sense of what was going on and do last-minute corrections from the first press run of Progress, Susan, the metro editor comes up to me. "If your story is good enough, we'll put it on 1A," she said. "No pressure or anything."

Gee, thanks, Susan. ::dies::

I finish the story, but I didn't think it was very good. If only I had more time, more chances to interview people, more space...

It's on 1A at the bottom. And it's the lead story right now on Tricities.com.

Maybe I didn't do so bad after all.
