I just got off the phone with Richie’s mother. She said he was found sitting in front of the XBox Friday morning. They’re not sure if he had a heart attack or if it was an aneurism. He was only 28. He was very happy, right up to the end - having gone to see ROTK the night before and spending time with one of his counselors.

The viewing is tonight from 6-9 p.m. in Abingdon, so I am definitely going. My plans for going home remain unchanged.

I talked with [livejournal.com profile] aishuu about it last night and I really didn't remain numb for very long, especially after talking with Richie's mom. I realize that Richie was put on this Earth for a special purpose and that he must be very special for God to call him home so early. I look at all of the people he helped through the article that I wrote and realized that maybe that was his purpose. He went through that suffering so he could help other people's lives. I feel very privileged to be the vessel that he chose to use to tell his story. I don't think you get very many chances in life like this. It's extremely beautiful and so I'm at peace with his death.

Well, I’ve lived through my first Bristol snowstorm. We got three inches of snow. I’ve decided that I really, really, really like snow. :-) It’s so pretty to look at and driving through it is extremely interesting too. Everyone kept telling me that this is a light snow. It didn’t seem light to me! I guess that’s because the entire state of Alabama shuts down for an inch or less.

I built a very tiny snowman on my porch and also threw snowballs. There’s icicles dripping off my car! Very cool! I also discovered what black ice was Friday when I stepped off the sidewalk to go to my car and instantly began sliding. Fortunately, I crash-landed into the car. (Yes, this has been another Megan-is-a-klutz moment.)

So this winter is going to be fun! And I finished my Christmas shopping for my family. My friends...well, will y’all take rain checks? Like post-Christmas rain checks? After all, it’s fun to get presents in January! ::duck::
