"Oh. Oh, well. This is interesting."

"Hello, Jack," The Doctor responded to the new voice in what he thought had been a private viewing of a starlily field during blooming season in the middle of the fifth autumn in Xydac's cycle. Okay, so it had been a viewing until River decided she was more interested in checking him out rather than the flowers, and who was he to correct her regarding that?

Jack Harkness stepped into the room as if he owned it. His eyebrow winged skyward as he took in the Doctor's and River's disheveled appearances and the bits of clothing littering the small area. His jacket and her heels were in a heap in the floor, and his braces were tangled about his hips from where they were pushed off. His latest piece of headgear was smouldering rubblein the corner ("I was trying to impress you!" "No, sweetie, just no."), and whatever dress River had unearthed from the TARDIS had fallen open at interesting points.

"Yes, it's indeed interesting," River replied, smoothly tugging her dress back into place, much to the Doctor's dismay. She shook her curls back and strode over Jack, her head tilted in that alluring manner that let the Doctor know that she definitely knew Jack in some form.

"Doctor, you must introduce me to this fascinating woman," Jack said, giving him a leering look as he rocked back on his heels. "I don't think I've ever seen you snogging anyone. And, believe me, I've tried," he added as an aside to River.

"You mean with you, I'm sure, Captain Harkness," River replied.

Jack didn't miss a beat. He tilted his head and flashed his most seductive smile. "Have we met? I'm sure I'd have a remember a woman like you."

The Doctor rolled his eyes.

River merely curved her lips into a knowing smile.

The cockiness drained a bit from Jack's face, and the seduction changed to wariness. "We have met, right?"

River kept smiling.

The Doctor couldn't decide if he found this entire setup amusing or arousing. Well, maybe a bit of both. Only because it was River and everything she did seemed to have that effect.

Jack narrowed his eyes at her. "Who are you?"

River brushed past the Doctor to whisper in Jack's ear.

He went white.

Jack jerked away, staring at River with a look of immense terror crossed with just as much respect. He immediately stepped back and snapped to a crisp, military-perfect salute. "Ma'am," he barked.

"At ease, Captain."

The Doctor just stared at both of them, his jaw hanging open. They were mad, both of them. He stared first at River, then at Jack, then back at River. "What?"

"You don't know who she is, Doctor?" Jack asked.

"Of course I know who she is! River Song. Good with a gun. Flies the TARDIS. Has a doctorate in archaelogy-"

"... among other things," Jack cut in.

"I know her parents. I was there when she was a month old. I most definitely know who she is!"

Jack turned to River. "Does he really not know?" he asked, jerking a thumb back at the Doctor.

"No, and you're not to tell him either."

"Now, hang on!" The Doctor quickly inserted himself between them. "Jack, what is River to you?"

Jack backed away, holding up his hands. "Doc, if she hasn't told you, then I'm not going to be the one to do so. You've saved my life, and I happen to value that life. I'm not saying a word."

The Doctor whirled around. "River, what are you to Jack?"

River just beamed at him. She opened her mouth, had just started to make an "s" sound when the Doctor laid his finger on her lips. "Don't tell me spoilers," he hissed.

She opened her mouth wider, drawing his finger into her mouth and taking it deep. She swirled her finger around the digit, and he shuddered. She closed her eyes, purring in the back of her throat, and his mind flashed to when she'd done the same sort of thing to other parts of his body.

"Jack, get out," The Doctor ordered, not breaking eye contact with River.

"I can't watch? That's really a great round of eye sex you've got going on there."

"Jack."

"I'm going, I'm going. I'll wait on the TARDIS for you." Jack swung around, his coat billowing about him. "Oh, and Doc, when she tells you, I want to be there to see the look on your face."

"Out!"

The moment the door whooshed close, the Doctor had his sonic in hand and was locking it just as he was being dragged down to a pile of fluffy pillows and the rest of his clothes gathering the smoldering heap of headgear in the corner.

And as she straddled him, as she took him into her, he asked her again.

"Who are you?" he asked as hoarsely as he had after the Battle of Demon's Run.

"You know who I am, my love," she responded.

He skimmed his fingers up her ribcage, skirted under her breasts and cupped them. Heartbeats pulsed beneath his hands. "I know you're Melody Pond. But, what are you to Jack?"

"You'll learn, my love," she whispered. She leaned forward and caressed his cheek. "There's so much about me that you've yet to learn. You'll know in time."

"You didn't," The Doctor indicated their joined bodies, "with him, right?"

She threw her head back and laughed, the rich, joyful sound echoing through the chamber. "Oh, my love. You're jealous. That's so adorable!"

"I am not jealous!"

She rolled her hips and he moaned.

Then, he forgot that Jack existed at all.
