The pre-nuptial agreement was so blatant in Nabiki's favor that even Kuno could see through it.
"Tendo Nabiki," Kuno drawled as he scanned the document, written in formal Japanese from the Sengoku Jidai to suit his tastes. "You're marrying me for my money."
Five miles away, Nabiki tapped the volume on her Bluetooth headset and frowned. "Kuno-chan, it's taken you 21 years to see that? What are you doing?"
"I am in the process of transferring documents to our new attorney and have taken the chance to peruse some of them. You are deliberately taking advantage of me."
"All the time, Kuno-chan, all the time. I wouldn't enter any sort of agreement unless I'm assured of a profit. Even you should be aware of that. Now, I'll be home in time for dinner with you and Akihiro. Tell him that if he didn't make a perfect grade point average for his first semester at university, he will owe me 10,000 yen per credit hour. Understand?"
But Kuno was already planning the sparring practice he planned to engage with his eldest son. "Tendo Nabiki," he proclaimed, "I do love you."
And in the middle of ruthlessly deconstructing a rival business into a mass of sobbing men begging for a buyout at a fraction of the cost she initially offered, Tendo Nabiki smiled.
The men were convinced that the fires of hell were about to rain down upon them.
