savvyliterate: (Hetalia: I did this!)
Hello new folks from the [livejournal.com profile] spoiler_song community! I'm so glad we had a friending meme on there, there's a lot of amazing people there.

I really need to write up my thoughts about "A Good Man Goes to War" and the big reveal within regarding who River Song is. I accidentally got spoiled for it, but in a way, that was good because it allowed me to get used to the idea. The shipper in me? Totally able to work with it, and I've been poking at the ideas running in my head in my non-existant spare time ... even though I've been sitting here the past few minutes essentially daydreaming rather than doing some much-needed writing.

This is my only day off this week because I volunteered for overtime again. I don't mind the OT at all, and with the trip next month, it'll help. I also found out how much my first month's compensation as an editor for TUAW will be and I'm cheering. Very, very nice. I am loving both of my jobs, which is a good thing because it's taking up a lot of time. I have to force myself to step away and take a break.

I went out today and got a Costco membership so we can do Namesake prints there. I spent my hour waiting on the prints poking through the merchandise. There is so much stuff there. I might make a few bulk purchases there, but I can see how your money can easily be sucked away. It'll be a great place to buy electronics and for when we have a family, and if I'm smart about my purchases, I can reduce my own grocery budget (hurray for freezing stuff such as extra milk and bread). I shot Mike a picture of a 44-inch LED TV for $999.99 that left him drooling.

When I headed back to get the prints, I forgot that they were in my maiden name and annoyed the lady by having her look for them a second time. Then, she pulled out the envelope and informed me that I can't just go ripping artwork off the Internet and having it printed. She would let me have these one time, but then she'd have to report it.

My jaw dropped at this point, and I was mortified because a mom and her teenage daughters were standing behind me at this point. "But, it's mine," I stammer. "Well, partly mine," I amended and explained Namesake and that I was the co-creator and [livejournal.com profile] secondlina had created the art and I wrote the comic. The lady accepted the answer, and I asked what I could do to have it on file that the prints I was submitting were authorized. She gave me some paperwork to fill out.

Was I upset? No. I was thrilled.

As I wrote on Tumblr, there are so many cases of art theft these days. Knowing that the folks at Costco are diligent about making sure that I’m not ripping off someone. We need more diligence to catch art thieves, and I don’t mind going through a few minutes of paperwork to document legitimate work if it means it’s stopping someone else from stealing our art.
