The Man in Black
I get to help with our coverage of Johnny Cash’s death. I’m calling around to local radio stations to find out what their tributes to the “Man in Black” are. Everyone was really nice except for this last station, WGOC-AM. The lady who answered the phone was all but rude to me.
“We have already played him this morning,” she informed me in a voice slightly above the freezing point.
Grrr... “Thank you,” I replied in my most polite-homegrown-Alabama voice. CLICK. So much for free publicity, eh?
NPR did a lovely tribute to him. It can be found on their Web site at http://www.npr.org. I listened to it and now I want to hear his music. My only exposure to it before now was through “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.”
It’s been quiet the past few days. I think I’m going to Java J’s when I get off work. I attempted beef stew last night and did a good job with it. I gave some to James when he picked up his laundry. It’s my good deed for the day. I joked that I cooked more for him last night (sent him off with fried rice earlier) than I did when we were dating.
Frankly though, I’d do the same thing for anyone. So many nice people helped me out in college and even now. If I can let someone use my washer and dryer so they can save money doing laundry or can send them home with a hot meal, then I know I’ve passed on the kindness people have shown me. I’ve got a very simple view of the world. Most people are nice - there’s just a few creeps that try to ruin it for the rest of us.
Naive? Very much so. But it works for me.
