Well, I just completed my first day on the job at the Bristol Herald Courier. I actually sat down and did a story today. It's a neat piece on a 1935 Auburn 851 Speedster that will be on display at an auto show this weekend. I'll have to post it when it comes out.
Everything's going good so far. I have my new cell phone and will actually contact people now. I had to sign a new contract since I was changing markets, so I was able to get a brand new phone. I love it :-D I finally got a flip-down phone, squee!!
I'm currently a ronin, but hopefully will be able to get into my apartment by the beginning of next week.
The highlight of my drive up here (besides stopping to get the second Inuyasha OST in Atlanta) was driving through the Appalachians. The final trek into Johnson City (where I pick up Hwy. 11 to go to Bristol) is an extension of Interstate 26 that will connect the interstate in Asheville, N.C. and Interstate 181 in Tennessee. Then, it will all be renamed I-26.
At one point in this construction, they make you go off the road and down this two-laned country road in the middle of hillbilly land. And you go up and up and up the mountain. Nice view! Then you go down the mountain and up another one. As soon as you do that, you get back on the real I-26.
Then the fun begins.
As soon as you get on it, the mountain goes down. And down. And down. The speed limit is 55 and I'm doing my damned best to keep under 70. I know I wasn't the only praying during the little jaunt down the mountain. Great road, actually shorter than going through Knoxville, but we are NOT taking the U-Haul with my furniture through that route. We have our choices: construction in Knoxville or going through the Appalachians. We're choosing Knoxville for the U-Haul.
I will try to get on AIM if I can to talk to people (especially you, Mack, I owe you an apology), but I may not be able to do so until I get into my apartment and get the cable set up.
