2011 fandom meme

Happy Christmas Eve, everyone! Mike and I are going to do gifts tonight. Because of keeping abreast of the bank accounts, I pretty much know what's under the tree for me. Mike will actually have one gift he doesn't know about because he's forgotten I ordered it. Yeah, we rather suck at Christmas surprises. I don't care. I'm still all giddy.
I went ahead and did the 2011 fandom meme. It's been going around everywhere, but I yanked it from
moonphased this time.
Cut for spoilers, mostly for series 6 of Doctor Who and seasons 6 and 7 of Bones.
The 2011 Fandom Meme
1. Your main fandom of the year?
Doctor Who. I think this is the first time Slayers has been displaced in the past six years.
2. Your favorite film watched this year?
Despite the issues I had with it, I really did enjoy "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2."
3. Your favorite book read this year?
"New York to Dallas" by J.D. Robb. It was absolutely brilliant.
4. Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
There's not much new here I started listening to that I haven't listened to before.
5. Your favorite TV show of the year?
Again, have to go with Doctor Who here, though I am watching more live action than before. Surprises were How I Met Your Mother and Merlin, both of which I'm really enjoying.
6. Your favorite LJ community of the year?
spoiler_song for all the lovely ficathons and being an overall awesome community. I'm so glad to see it be going over to Dreamwidth as well.
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
The Doctor/River fandom on Tumblr and LiveJournal. I haven't felt this comfortable around a group of fans since I first got into Slayers in 2005.
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Bones. I ended last year really liking the series and had gotten up to the fifth season on Netflix and was watching the sixth season on Fox, but I do not like the way Brennan's pregnancy was worked into the show. I understand why they did it, but they went from Booth and Brennan barely on speaking terms again to extremely ambiguous implied sex to hello, baby to skipping ahead six months into the pregnancy. I do not like how Brennan was treated in order to deal with the pregnancy plot, and I've found no motivation to keep on with season seven after the first two episodes. They're all still on the DVR. Maybe I'll watch more one day. I'm so disappointed in Bones, and I never quite clicked with the fandom even though there's some lovely folks I still chat with on Twitter, so I think this one's going to largely fade away.
9. Your fictional boyfriend of the year?
I have to choose between Eleven and Rory, don't I? Well, let's go with the Eleventh Doctor then. Oh, Matt Smith, your face does stuff to people.
10. Your fictional girlfriend of the year?
Who else but River Song? But I'll say this - Amy Pond has really emerged as a character I've grown to adore.
11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
MY OTP IS CANON. FULL CANON. COMPLETELY AND OFFICIALLY CANON, AND THEY'RE MARRIED.
*cough*
There were two: "Hello." "Hello." at the end of "A Good Man Goes to War" and pretty much all of "The Wedding of River Song," but especially the scenes atop the pyramid and "Dr. Song, in prison for all her days?" "Her days, yes. Her nights, well, that's between her and me, eh?"
12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
I still talk to most folks in the Slayers fandom still, and several of them are either Doctor Who or Doctor/River fans right along with me. I miss my Slayers muse though, especially since there are stories I want to complete, but the muse is elsewhere. I think it's relishing in the constant barrage of new Doctor/River material at the moment. I don't think we'll see much in the way of new Slayers stuff for a little while, which makes me sad, but I completely understand as well. *hugs my Slayers novels*
13. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Downton Abbey, I'm looking at you. And I can't wait to see more of Merlin.
14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Legend of Korra
Doctor Who, series 7
Sherlock, series 2
Rurouni Kenshin live-action movie
Rurouni Kenshin remake of the Kyoto Arc
The Hobbit
