Heaven to Betsy!

Yeah, I'm a little behind on the advent stories. I'll get caught up tonight/tomorrow.
I'm going to be going out to San Francisco in January to help cover Macworld expo!! I'm super-excited, though it'll be a bit hectic because I have to make sure I'm home in time to do my usual A1 shift that Sunday. I'm told that AOL will pay for everything, and I have permission from the Patriot-News to go. They're really excited for me at work. I really do work with the best people ever. I took Mike up there yesterday, and he got to meet a majority of the staff. They all really liked him, and he even got to see my role in action a bit.
I wrapped Christmas gifts last night, and Peekaboo helpfully unwrapped one of them. I sent out the first batch of Christmas cards, which should be most everyone who responded to this thread. I have a few more left to send out as soon as I find my other book of stamps.
I'm indulging in my childhood a bit because I found out the Betsy-Tacy books are all on the Kindle. It's a series by Maud Hart Lovelace based on her childhood and take place from 1897-1917. I started in the middle with the first high school book, and the stories are just as wonderful and imaginative as when I was a girl. One of the awesome things about the books is how supportive Betsy's family (likewise Maud's) is of her being a writer in an era where women are still primarily homemakers. Betsy wants to be an author, and her sister, Julia, wants to be an opera singer. They both chase their dreams and succeed with the support of their families. It really captures this era well, and I think they send a really strong message in that you can chase your dreams and still be an amazing woman.
I realize I'm staying home a lot more for obvious reasons except to run errands. I really need to get out of the apartment a bit more, visit some old haunts and do some writing. I sat down with Isa and outlined the basic draft of chapter 8 of Namesake. I've also sent out a few inquiries on getting volume 1 printed, but we haven't had luck with responses yet. My ficcage for Doctor Who is still pretty prolific. I love being in that stage of a fandom.
It's been more than two weeks, and we're doing pretty well. We've had our first discussion rather than a fight, and it came about because I misunderstood something Mike was telling me. I took a few hours to sulk, then we talked about it, and everything was fine -- just like when we had disagreements when we were separated. That awkward feeling of sharing space is now gone for me. It now feels like he's always been here, and I've discovered he's a very handy pillow to have on the couch. I fell asleep on him twice today because he was just that warm and cuddly. Trash cans for gagging to your left, readers.
We are getting some nice habits. Mike records "The Daily Show" and "Colbert Report" and waits to watch them when I'm awake and functioning. I've baked cookies each Wednesday and this week they came out really well because I figured out the idiosyncrasies of the oven. I'll probably keep doing that. I should look up how to do a Victoria sponge cake.
We ordered his computer on Friday and it came in Monday. It did a lot to help this place seem more like home. We just need to get his pictures up now. I know the holidays will be rough for him, but we'll make it through. It does feel like he's always been here now, and I'm finding I'm not freaking out over lack of alone time. We can be in the same room doing different things, and it doesn't bother either of us. I also still keep different sleeping hours, so I nab an hour or two of alone time around well ... now. Mike's been playing Arkham City, and it's such a pretty game. I might try the first one since this one isn't making me nauseated by watching him play.
