So, Thursday should have been one of the happiest days of my life. Instead, it turned out to be miserable because apparently I needed cosmic balance for having such a very good Tuesday, all capped off with my body getting revenge on me because I forgot to take my birth control Wednesday. Normally, skipping a day means I just double-up when I realize, no problem. But apparently forgetting + loads of stress + lack of sleep = REVENGE, and we'll leave it at that. I chucked out the rest of the pills. At least the good thing to come out of it is that I accidentally scheduled my annual exam during that particular time, so this gets it out of the way there.

I don't think we're quite excited yet until we know for damn sure the embassy has those W2s and the courier is on the way to Liverpool with the visa. Thankfully, with a courier, we know it'll arrive within a day or so, but it's still nerve-wracking, and I'm kicking myself for buying the ticket. But, we're just going to look on the bright side. If everything goes well, in a week, I'll be in the car on the way to the airport to bring Mike home for good ... or at least 24 hours until we drive down to Gatlinburg for Thanksgiving.

Mike's already mostly packed, realized he's bringing too much, and is repacking. This will probably set the tone for the rest of his week. On my end, I've got to get the apartment ready for cohabitation. There's things we won't have right on day 1 (Mike's computer, his computer desk/chair, we should look into a new bedroom set or at least get him a nightstand), but I'm heading to Target to pick up new pillows, storage baskets for him in the bathroom since we lack a medicine cabinet, shower storage, and we managed to figure the U.S. equivalent of the toiletries he uses. I won't get groceries until we get back from Gatlinburg, and then we can do that together. I need to clean out the refrigerator and freezer then reorganize the bedroom from where all my things had migrated onto both sides of the closet and need to clear part of the dresser. Mike also just IMed me the TV shows he wants me to add to the DVR. "I don't have to download them illegally anymore," he proudly said.

Let me just say that this all feels weird. In three weeks, when this is all absolutely normal, feel free to bring this post back up, point, and laugh.

I think we're finally about at the end of the massive first round of Jerry Sandsuky/Joe Paterno coverage. My role the entire time has either been doing front pages or Penn State-related inside pages, and my A1 for Monday should be the very last. I'm so ready for things to at least go back to normal, at least for the moment. This isn't over yet, not by a long shot. There's a belief that someone will wind up committing seppuku, and I think JoePa will go the way of Paul "Bear" Bryant. Hopefully, I'm wrong about both. Last night, I did a timeline of news pages showing our coverage, and the executive editor walked over to me, placed her hand on the back of my chair and said to us, "Remember this week. This is probably the biggest story we'll ever cover." Even bigger than 9/11, one person on Facebook asked. For our paper, who broke the story (and no one listened), yeah, it is. This was our 9/11. As one of the sports copy editors said, this is the biggest scandal in college sports history. No one can even begin to think of #2.

Said editor mentioned above, as well as a couple of co-workers, urged me to go out to the Harrisburg Book Festival today, so I'm about to get dressed and do that. Cate's going to be speaking around 4 on a panel about a former columnist who worked for us years ago and urged us all to come see her, but I pointed out I had to do A1. "You know, you can just let me off for a few hours. No one will miss me." She laughed and I have to go to work anyhow. ^_~ But, because we still have top editors coming in instead of doing stuff by phone, I'll actually go in at 4 instead of 3:30.

I got my iPhone 4S on Wednesday before going in for the JoePa coverage, and it's been a lovely phone thus far. I'm figuring out Siri and already have had hilarious results. I'll have to post them. The camera is extremely good, especially in low-light settings, and I had thought the 4 had a good camera. Nope, this one blows the 4's camera out of the water.

Amazon has Firefly as its deal of the day, dropping the price of the DVDs and Blu-ray to $15 and $19 respectively. Since I keep hearing Firefly is such a good series, I picked up the Blu-ray. I am still enjoying Merlin, though I really hope it breaks out of the pattern of: Merlin meets person > Merlin decides to help person using magic > Merlin's magic lands said person in prison > Uther whines about how much he hates magic > Merlin saves the day using covert magic soon.
