I'm going to start posting up daily excerpts from "Time and Death" more as a means of keeping track of my own progress with the story, but since this won't be fully published for at least two months, I figure it's a good way to share snippets as well. I'm not sure about doing a filter just for this, but since they're spoilers, they'll be under a cut. I'm going to do one featuring both casts, though later on, it'll probably be them together as they intermingle.

The Doctor Who cast
“Wait, is that River?” Amy was asking as the Doctor leaped from his seat, plastering his face against the window. River gave a wave and blew them a kiss as they slowly moved past her.

“How can she even breathe this high?” Rory asked as the Doctor yanked out his sonic and unlocked the door.

“Well, the first time I met her was when she shot herself out of an airlock,” Amy said. “You know, part-Time Lord. I figured after a point, you just don’t even ask.”

“She gets this from your side of the family, Pond,” the Doctor muttered as the lock released and he yanked the door open. He stuck his face out, wincing from the icy sting of the air, and reached a hand out for her.

River pressed something on her jacket, and he saw she was wearing a small rocket-powered booster pack. She shot off the strut and into his arms, knocking them both back into the booth. It swayed violently from the impact, and an alarm sounded.

“Stability alert. Everybody stay still!” The Doctor yelled over the alarm.

“We might want to close the door!” Amy shouted.

“Well, do that!” he yelled back.

Rory quickly wrestled the door close, and the booth stopped swinging violently. All four of them held their breath for a moment, then the alarm cut off. Breathing easily for the first time since they’d spotted River outside, the Doctor glanced down at her, not sure whether to be resigned at yet another one of her outlandish entrances or yell at her. She was unusually quiet, her ear pressed to his chest, her eyes closed in concentration. “River?” he asked, a bit hesitantly.

She pulled back, slowly and carefully. She scooped her hair out of her eyes and looked at Amy and Rory. “When are we?”

“After Area 52 for us,” Amy said. “You’ve been to Demon’s Run?”

“Does being an infant count?” River smiled at her parents. “Hello, Mother. Father.” Her gaze turned to the Doctor, and her voice turned low and husky. “Hello, sweetie,” she purred, then kissed him.

The In Death cast
“All right. We won’t rouse her now, but we’ll swing by, see her in the morning. I want to stop by the morgue before heading in. Want me to drop you off?”

“I’ll come with you. To the morgue, that is. I, by no means, was inviting myself home to your extremely comfortable and spacious home, where there are so many luscious gel-filled beds that you wouldn’t even notice your partner snatching a nap in one of them at all.”

“Your subtly is one of your best features, Peabody.”

“I consider it a point of pride.”

Eve snorted. “Fine. You can crash. Just when you tell McNab and he starts pouting, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

“He gets the bed to himself! He claims I snore.” Peabody crossed her arms over her chest. “I do not snore.”
