Nintendo 3DS: First impressions

After wasting my day waiting around for UPS, I got the 3DS shortly before I went out to dinner with
tiegirl. I got it used through Amazon Warehouse Deals ... and wound up with a new 3DS! The only thing wrong with it was the box had a gouge in it, but the contents inside were completely untouched. I'm very pleased with this.
Nintendo also included a docking station for the 3DS, which I like a lot. I set the dock up in the living room on the shelf above the video games so the 3DS has a permanent home. In another very smart move, Nintendo kept the size of the charging port the same from the DSi to the 3DS. So, I can leave the docking station where it is and use the DSi charger for when I take the 3DS out. They also included a 2GB SD card, which was really classy. I had to go hunting down one for the Wii when I got it, and as well with the DSi.
The system now uses QR codes for sharing Miis, which is really awesome. I tested it by going to the review
ichiban_victory did and added her Mii. Want mine? Here it is:

I signed into the 3DS store to the news that I was in the ambassador program and added some games to my wish list: Super Mario Land and Link's Awakening. The first I still have my brother's original cartridge from where I borrowed it and never gave it back. I never played the second since Chris really didn't care for the GameBoy Zeldas, just the console ones. I tried out the camera and took a 3D picture of Peekaboo. It doesn't really look like anything unless you view it on the 3DS camera, but I had a good laugh all the same.
After messing about, I began playing Ocarina of Time. I messed with the 3D slider a bit and noticed I could handle it pretty well in a low setting, but preferred to play with it off. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous, no matter if they're 2D or 3D. Because they're so smoothed out and the camera control is much, much better, it resulted in a bonus: NO HEADACHES. Absolutely none. I only stopped playing because I was tired, not in pain. Instead of falling right asleep to sleep off the headache, I came in here to write up the post. I am beyond giddy. A big reason I never defeated the water dungeon other than having to give the game/system back was that it made me nauseated to the point that I couldn't play any longer. I really hope this continues, because I was very pleased with this.
To see a comparison of Nintendo 64 screenshots with Nintendo 3DS screenshots, check this post out. Nintendo took a groundbreaking game and made it even more gorgeous. Huzzah!
So, I'm pretty happy with my purchase and look forward to finally beating this game. I've already pre-ordered Paper Mario 3D, Super Mario 3D and Tales of the Abyss. If you're considering the console, I suggest doing the Amazon Warehouse Deal once the new MSRP kicks in tomorrow. That should drive those down to about $130-140 or so. I just need a new case so my DSi doesn't have to give up its home.
