Busy, busy, busy ...

The last few days at work were super busy. I was so thankful to reach my off days (yesterday and today.) As much as I enjoy working the business shift, I usually wind up pulling 10-12 hour days because of working on the Sunday section. There's little time left to breathe much less do anything else.
I do have some great news. As of today, I'm an editor with TUAW. I'm joining my first staff meeting this afternoon, and they should be promoting me on the site, etc. in the next few days. I'm pretty excited. It nets me a flat salary per month (the amount made me do a little boogie dance even though I still have to withhold my own taxes) and I still get paid per article. Sweet! I'll be the apps editor, which means I go through all the emails, find apps for our reviewers to take look at and schedule roundups, things like that. It'll only take me a couple hours a day, and I can do it whenever and wherever I want, which makes it really easy to fit it in around Namesake and my job.
Last night, I came across a deal for Verizon FiOS to try it out that seemed pretty good. Currently I pay Comcast $45 a month for 15Mbps upload/3Mbps download Internet and that's it. I've been toying with getting cable off and on, but instead we're trying Verizon's service. We're going with the mid-tier TV/Internet package there because I really wanted BBC America. It's $84.99 for the first six months (DVR extra after three months) and had that mid-tier Internet package with BBC America, The Hub (My Little Pony!) and a football (soccer) channel for Mike, among others. The Internet is amazing: 25Mbps both upload and download. We also get free installation and activation and a free wireless router. I've heard nothing but good stuff about Verizon, so we're going ahead with it. I just need to double-check that we can have FiOS here, but I remember my landlady saying it was an option when I moved in.
I got my local and state taxes out today, and the lines weren't so bad. Then I headed to Bed, Bath and Beyond to get some organizers for my cabinets and stopped by Starbucks to get a new stainless steel mug. I looked at BB&B for one, but they didn't have any. I loved the last one I got from Starbucks, but it looks like the move ate it. This one was stainless steel again, but had a grip in the middle and what feels like white porcelain around the top. It has a black lid with a green opener. I think it was done for the anniversary. It looks classy and has character, so I grabbed it. Yes, I love Starbucks coffee. ^_~ It did an amazing job keeping my coffee hot for a long time, and it was even still warm four hours later after I woke up from a nap. Mike had gotten me this awesome Tested coffee mug, but the silicone cover caused it to leak. It will now be a stay-at-home mug.
My mom is going to be here Sunday! I'm so excited ... except I have loads of cleaning to do. There's cleaning, then there's "mother's visiting" cleaning.
