Questions for the medically inclined

Okay, so. Quietly freaking out here despite being told not to freak out. But I can't help it.
The past couple of weeks, Mike's been abnormally quiet. I mean even quieter than normal. He's told me that he's not felt like himself. He'd been ill, then tired and of course I worried. Over the past three days or so, he's acted more normal. We've talked a whole lot more over video and he's been more energetic. He met
misaoshinomori through Skype and everything seemed fine.
This morning, Mike was getting ready for work when he felt his right arm go tingly, then he noticed the right side of his face was numb. He looked in the mirror, tried to smile, but only the left side of his face reacted. He rushed downstairs to his father to try to tell him what's going on, but his speech was slurred. His dad got the idea though, and immediately took Mike to the hospital. By the time Mike got back upstairs to finish grabbing clothes, everything had gone back to normal, but they still went anyhow because Mike was freaked out. They went to the hospital where he got blood work done, an ECG (EKG?), and a chest X-ray. They're also giving him an appointment for the TIA clinic to rule out that he had a stroke.
Since I was home and in bed by the time Mike gets back, he realized I was in bed asleep and wrote to tell me what happened.
"So I know at this point, you're probably freaking out and upset," Mike wrote me.
I promptly burst into tears. ^_~
Mike's doing his best to convince me that he's fine, but I can't help it. I'm not there. He actually went out tonight with co-workers to bid farewell to someone he worked with who is leaving, but he left his IM turned on through his phone and is doing his best to comfort me. It's not working. I know there's several people in the medical field on my friends list, and others who have spent extensive time in hospitals and the like (hi, Amy!!!) Did Mike have a stroke? Or what could have caused this?
