Slayers Evolution-R: Episode 4 - The Ultimate Lina/Gourry Experience (aka Oh, My Cracky Goodness!)

Yes, I admit I was lax in doing a review for episode 3. I figured that ichiban_victory and others were able to express their sheer glee over the episode quite adequately.

As for this episode? If you're a Lina/Gourry fan, you'll pretty much keel over from sheer and utter joy. I'm not to the point where I can even attempt a coherent review because this episode is so much crack that most of it went over my head. I will say this - the episode is a parody of the shoujo genre along with j-dramas and soap operas. It is pure and utter CRACK.

So below the cut, I shall show you how Lina and Gourry are simply not a couple AT ALL.


Reader's Digest version of the episode: The gang are having a meal when Kuppi, Miss Mermaid from Revolution, appears with two kids. She calls Gourry the father of her children and everyone's in shock. But Gourry winds up going with Kuppi to take care of the kids and becomes a father to them (for about two days or so). Entire fandom is pretty much going, "WTF?" at this point.

But it turns out that Lina misses Gourry.





And Gourry misses Lina.







But right as he's wishing for her the most, she appears.





And Gourry's a bit happy.



Now here's the part where the subs will help. The gang starts urging Gourry to go with him, pretty much reminding him that there's no way he can be the father of these kids. Gourry knows this, but feels like that children shouldn't grow up without a father. It's been asked of him, so he's going to see it through.

So the gang leaves. Amelia cries over Gourry being splendid (and the loss of her OTP) and Pokota asks if Lina is okay. Lina looks rather sad ...



The gang eventually run into Kuppi's estranged husband. He turned out to have abandoned Kuppi and she was secretly pregnant with his kids. So essentially pretending that Gourry is the father of her kids is a plot to get back at the husband. The husband drags Lina back to the house and squares off against Kuppi. He demands she let Gourry go. Kuppi insists that Gourry stays with her, and we get the following ...

Husband to Gourry: You need to resume your travels with Lina!



Husband: You have no idea how much she cares for you!



Husband: She loves you!



Husband: She loves you, so you need to go with her!



Lina: No, we're not like that at all! Gourry's just my self-proclaimed bo .. dy ... gua ...





Meanwhile, Amelia approves of this scene!



Of course, Nama has to rush in and insist that Gourry get HER pregnant. Lina is NOT happy.

And so things get well ... insane from there. We wind up with ...

Lina and Kuppi having a literal tug-of-war over Gourry.



The younger fish girl having a crush on Zel while the brother goes punk.



And Pokota being run over.





Aaaaand stomped by random dragon.



Yeah. I warned you that this episode is CRACK.

But at the very end, after random tsunami takes out the town, Lina approaches a depressed Gourry.

"I really wanted to be a good father," he tells her.

She places her hand on his shoulder. "Gourry, one day, you'll be a splendid one."





And they go off into the next episode ... where there are dangerous rumors about that the plot resumes! Might be aided a bit by Xelloss and Zuuma both appearing, but who am I to know? ^_~
