Nov. 6th, 2004
I've not talked about this with a lot of people, but with the reality of it looming closer, it's time for me to officially say something.
No, I'm not engaged.
I'm moving - possibly.
Yes, again.
Next Saturday, I will be boarding a flying death trap (known as an airplane) and flying to Lewiston, Maine, for a job interview with the Lewiston Sun Journal. Many of you have never heard of the paper. But in the visual journalism world, that's a pretty big deal. The Sun Journal is one of the best newspapers for visual journalists in this country. The former managing editor of visuals here now works at the Arizona Daily Star. Other former alumni of the paper are working at huge papers all over the country. In other words, it's like boot camp for visual journalists. Those interested in seeing what this paper has to offer, let me know. I'll pull together some links. Right now, though, it looks like there's an 80 percent chance I will get this job (unless I manage to royally blow things up.) I did not pursue this job. In fact, I turned it down once. But then it was offered to me a second time last month, a few months after it happened the first time. I realized that God was trying to tell me something and I better shut up and listen.
So what does this mean? Yes, I will still be dating Jeff. We have already agreed to that, end of discussion. If I move, I will be doing so in late December, possibly during or right after Christmas. I am doing as much as I can to get rid of as much stuff as I possibly can. This means I am selling almost everything I have. In a sense, this is a very good thing. Everything I have for the most part are hand-me-downs. This allows me to start over and go for a style that I want. Stuff I am selling includes my old desktop, stereo system, couch, the cats (how did that get in there?), entertainment center (it's a real nice one), bookcases, end tables, bedroom suite, an old DVD player, etc.
kpierson or James, if you see any of that stuff you would want, IM me. I would like to get my things down to where they will fit in a trailer because the cost of renting a moving van is astronomical.
For my friends in Alabama, I will be coming down for Thanksgiving. I was wondering if maybe we could all meet in Birmingham the day after Thanksgiving. I've invited Celeste to come spend the holiday with me, and Nicky, if you don't want to spend it with your family, you're welcome to come as well. In any rate, I want to see all of you before I leave, because I will most likely not be coming back for Christmas. The next time I'll fly down will probably be some time next fall or winter.
I'm very, VERY excited about this. Except for when I start to tally the cost of moving. Then I get seasick. But, if I can get a hitch installed on the car, renting a trailor costs $65. But, let's hope that everything works out! I will keep y'all updated.
