Conning

I just got back from AWA, and I can't believe how much fun I had at the con.

The decision was made at the last minute - literally. I worked late Friday night so I didn't have to come in yesterday and then spent then and this morning in Atlanta with Celeste, [livejournal.com profile] caligogreywings and [livejournal.com profile] genjigirl.

I actually got a lot of stuff, including a good chunk of the Inuyasha manga in Japanese. I've decided to have my copy of the series in Japanese, and then just obtain the English long enough to do reviews for AoD. This means I'll be selling my English versions of 1-19 as well, so if anyone is interested, let me know. I also completed my set of Imadoki! in Japanese and got the first two volumes of Fushigi Yugi Gembu.

The artist's alley was really cool and I got the cutest print of this piece of art and five prints of fanart for $20! The fanart was a set of Inuyasha prints, two Kenshin prints and a R.O.D. one of Yomiko. I am extremely picky about what art I display in my home, so these were a joy to get. The horses picture I have on my computer at work.

My big gripe was the dealer's room. It opened late both Saturday and Sunday and you were forced to wait in line during that entire time. Celeste hated that as well. Today was a lot less crowded and I got some really good deals - including an amethyst necklace and earrings for $32 that were originally $150. Celeste bought some of my IY manga for me as an early Christmas present and I agreed to chip in on the DVDs she bought from Media Blasters as hers. The other fun I had in there today was talking to one of the marketing people from FUNImation. She was really cool and we chatted for about 20 minutes. I need to tag her on AoD so I can pass on my contact stuff to her.

I decided over the course of the trip to get back into learning Japanese. I got a very good self-study book, then I'm going to work with [livejournal.com profile] shigure with her manga translation group. It's a very good group who does stuff that is not licensed yet. So, MK, I'm finally answering your plea - just several months late! Who knows, if I get really good, maybe I can eventually do some manga translation on a freelance basis. Gotta practice first!
