I am Persephone!
You are Persephone, the goddess of springtime,
Earth's fertility, but also the goddess of
darkness and intuition. You are creative, and
can always see past the surface. Although you
are moody and sometimes a bit grumpy, you are
really worth getting to know, but sometimes
people just don't bother. But they should!

Mou....

I was involved in a debate last night that talked about politics and religion. Explosive subjects, eh? Well, while in the middle of the convearticipants, a 17-year-old, begins patronizing one of my very best friends (not a way to get on my good side.) My friend gets mad, understandably and so do I. Why? Because Lelu was treating Ely as if she was six years old, not five years older than her.

There is a certain maturity that comes with age. You don't act the same when you're 17, 22, 27 or 32. Yes, Lelu may act more mature for her age, but she doesn't have the right to tell Ely that she acts more mature than Ely does.

I really and truly admire Ely. Right now, she's on a rough job search and is getting married. Marriage is something that is truly daunting and requires a great deal of maturity. I've known Ely for two and a half years now. Just in the past 12 months alone, I've seen her mature so much that I can't even describe it. To sit and read a mere high schooler claim that she is more mature than a college-educated engaged woman is pure crap.

Yes, you can act mature for your age when you're in high school. I have no doubts about that. You can also act very childish for your age and be 30. A certain amount of maturity comes from age simply because you have experienced more of life. Take for instance Mack, who I know will read this ;-) Mack is older than I am, and he's more mature in ways. He's got his master's degree and is going for a law degree. He's been around people longer and knows what the real world is like. That is a maturity that comes with age. He knows things about life that I don't because he is in his late 20s and I am in my early 20s. Just as I know things about life that Lelu doesn't because I'm 22 and she's 17.

You can't go around and stick your nose up in the air and go "I am more mature than you, so THERE!", which was pretty much the gist of what I interpreted. That's proof then that you are NOT mature. Maturity isn't something that you flaunt. It is something that is quiet and other people notice without having to fling it into your face. If you feel the need to do so, then you have a lot more maturing to do.
